I have a personal mission to improve the quality of Arabic typography. In late 2009 / early 2010 I set up a blog for this purpose and to share my knowledge and ideas about the goals I had. As of this writing I have more than 100 articles on the blog discussing various issues that range from the technical to the abstract and the creative aspects related to the Arabic script.
One of my objectives is the production of a comprehensive manual that covers the historical, creative, and technical sides of making Arabic fonts. My first attempt took place while still trying to master the tools for making Arabic fonts. Despite my relatively fresh entry into the realm of TrueType and OpenType technologies, I did put together plausible content and I laid out several pages of the proposed manual.
I experimented with the usage of a low-contrast Arabic font, namely TheSansArabic as its designers called it. Low-contrast Arabic fonts were becoming increasingly in demand for their modern visual appeal. The font I selected was very suitable and balanced. Combined with a vibrant color scheme and colorful iconography, I successfully designed an appealing sample that was very much in line with the kind of typography I was advocating.
